Who We Are

The SHALON Blueprint is an initiative of Dr. Shalon's Maternal Action Project (DSMAP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating racial disparities in maternal healthcare. Rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural competence, and systemic change, the SHALON Blueprint serves as a guiding framework to ensure equitable, empathetic, and patient-centered care for Black women and birthing people.

Who We Are

The SHALON Blueprint is the work of Dr. Shalon's Maternal Action Project in collaboration with a diverse coalition of healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates committed to advancing maternal health equity.

Our interdisciplinary team is dedicated to transforming obstetric and perinatal care by addressing systemic inequities and ensuring respectful, high-quality treatment for all birthing people. Physicians lead the effort to confront disparities within the healthcare system, while nurses and midwives provide patient-centered, compassionate care throughout the birthing journey. Doulas and community birth workers offer culturally responsive support and advocacy, ensuring that birthing people feel heard and empowered. Health equity researchers analyze disparities and develop evidence-based interventions, while public health professionals work to implement policy changes that improve maternal health outcomes. Advocates and educators equip communities with the knowledge and resources needed to demand better care. Together, we dismantle barriers, challenge bias, and create a healthcare system rooted in respect, dignity, and equity.
